Factoids and Tips

Finished vs non-finished floors

With floors that have floor finish, use a neutral cleaner or a cleaner that does not have a pH higher than the floor finish. For non finished floors or difficult cleaning applications use an alkaline cleaner.

Plan and follow directions

Follow the floor cleaning system and the cleaning plan. Always measure and follow the indicated dilutions. Always use clean pads, mops and equipment to avoid the gradual build-up of dirt on your floor & in your floor finish.

Use entrance mats

Good well-maintained entrance matting can dramatically reduce the need for cleaning. For public and office buildings about 80 to 90% of the dirt is tracked in from outside. Installing a total of 15 feet of matting consisting of both indoor and outdoor sections will remove about 80% of this.

Floor Maintenance

Required Equipment

Floor Preparation

Remove furniture and clean the floor. Pick-up debris and shake or vacuum and roll up walk-off mats. If there is a section with floor finish that you do not want to strip then tape those areas. Place ”WET FLOOR“ signs. Put on Personal protective equipment. Mix stripper as directed.

Stripping

Spray baseboard cleaner on baseboards and vertical surfaces and wipe clean. Use a putty knife to scrape up all gum and other adhesives. Flood stripper onto manageable 10’ x 10’ (3.048 m x 3.048 m) areas of the floor. Let dwell for 5-10 minutes. Keep the stripper wet and do not let air dry. Scrub in both directions with a clean black pad. Flip or change pads as required. Apply stripper to edges. Let dwell. Scrub with black doodle bug.
